Quartz asymmetric top knitting pattern
PATTERN INFORMATION
The quartz asymmetric top is a one shoulder sleeveless top with a triangular front hem and O-ring detail on the shoulder strap.
This top is worked bottom-up. You start by knitting the asymmetric bottom hem flat, then join in the round to knit the body. The back of the bottom of the body features a no-roll hem. The body is shaped with vertical waist decreases and bust increases, and larger bust/chest sizes will work both vertical and horizontal bust increases and decreases. Finally, the front and back are split into separate panels and worked flat to create the shoulder strap. Short rows are incorporated into both the asymmetric hem and one shoulder strap.
This top is designed to have 0 ease around the bottom hem and a negative ease of 6 inches/15cm around the bust/chest. This variable ease ensures that the triangular bottom hem flows loosely around the stomach area, while also feeling secure around the bust/chest.
SIZING & YARN
The pattern comes with a spreadsheet to calculate all your stitch and row counts based on your exact body measurements and gauge swatch. As such, you can use any yarn weight and needle size you like but a fingering, sport or DK weight is recommended.
In my photos I used Rico Fashion Cotton Metallise DK (a cotton/acrylic blend yarn) and 4mm needles for the grey sample, and Hobbii Seashell (a sport weight cotton/linen/viscose blend yarn) and 3.5/4mm needles for the cropped white sample.
The spreadsheet contains a calculator for the amount of yarn you will need for your project, but as an estimate you will need 3 (4) 4 (5) 6 (6) 7 (8) 8 balls of DK weight yarn for sizes XS (S) M (L) XL (2X) 3X (4X) 5X.
I have strived to make the language and schematics in this pattern inclusive for all genders.
